The six rural sites that participated were Lanai, Molokai, Honokaa and Pahoa on the Big Island, and Hanalei and Waimea on Kauai. Each site was headed by a site coordinator who lived and worked in the community. The site coordinators served primarily as community liaisons for the students, but their "other duties as assigned" included teacher, counselor and mentor. The dedication and energy they contributed each year was endless and instrumental to the success of the program.
In addition to the site coordinator, each team was assigned a UH faculty liaison. The UH faculty were key personnel and worked closely with the program director and site coordinators to develop the curriculum for the three spring seminars. In addition, they served as recruiters for specific disciplines as well as faculty liaison for one of the six teams. They all brought many special talents and lots of energy to the program.
